New photos and web site updates

New photos from recent days at the pond are on the latest photos page. Also some of the information for members and visitors has been updated including the Health and Safety policy and assessment. Don't think we need a H&S policy... just look at those horns! [26th April 2016]

NAVY DAY postponed (from Sunday 24th April) NOW ON SUNDAY 5th JUNE
This is due to safety and logistic concerns due to the excessive depth of water in the pond.

In Memoriam - Alan Furness

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that Alan Furness, one of our long standing members, passed away on Monday morning (28th March) after a long illness. He will be missed by all who new him. Although over the past couple of years Alan was not been able to attend club days at Setley, he continued to supported our exhibitions with his models. He was an excellent model maker and I was always amazed at the way he was able to utilise ordinary household items into his models, most memorable was his cargo boat with a hull constructed from used drinks cans, a true feat of model engineering! Our sympathy and thoughts go out to his wife Pam and his family at this sad time. - David McNair-Taylor, Scale Section Captain.

2016 Highcliffe Show had good weather

Given the bad weather we have had this winter we were lucky that the sun shone on Saturday 12th March for the 2016 Highcliffe Model Boat Show. We will let you know the amount raised for the RNLI when the figures are available*. Meanwhile here are some more photos of the show.
* amount rasied was £585.73 somewhat down on recent years. There were fewer families attending, possibly because local caravan parks were being refurbished.

New Movie: John Geall's Jolie Brise

By, at the same time, filming and sailing his model of the Jolie Brise and also mounting a GoPro camera on the stern, John Geall captured some exciting video. You can view it on the Club web site or directly on YouTube.

Road Closure to Setley Pond
N.B. the road has now been reopened

The gate across the road to the pond has been locked by the Forestry Commision. This is because the pot holes are considered not safe for the general public to have access. The Club has a key to the gate which can be used at members own risk but the gate can only be opened if the entrance is manned to prevent non-member access. We have been advised not to use the road beyond the large potholes so it will mean parking and walking/carrying models down to the lake. Please note that the lane that runs to the east side of the pond is a private access road for the properties down it, if you do park on it you may be asked to move, please do not block access to the properties.
