Moonshine

Moonshine dates back to the mid 70's. I based the design on the Cup yachts of the time which were all pretty beamy. This model is 1050mm (41in) long with a beam of 315mm (12.5in). The hull is glassfibre and the deck is teak planked over plywood. Having retrieved the model from my brother's loft in 2008 I carried out a major refit including new rig and sails, new winch and radio gear, and a larger rudder. With a displacement of 8.5kg (19lb) it is no lightweight but sails reasonably well in most conditions. In a constant wind it is easy to sail but it does tend to broach when it is gusty!
