The Annual Boxing Day free sailing regatta organised by the Royal Lymington Yacht Club. The event is open to "home made" boats without radio control, with the "Helm" for each boat aged under 16. You can read about the event on the Yachts and Yachting web site.

I think the few of us who turned up at the pond mainly came to see how deep it is getting but a few boats ventured out or enjoyed using the car park as a pond extension!

After 50 years dedicated to Ocean Exploration the Royal Research Ship Discovery left Southampton for the final time on 21st December 2012. A new RRS Discovery will come into service during 2013.

With the weather slightly warmer a few boats ventured out on this Sunday. However showers were threatening and a flurry of hail sent most modellers back into their cars! Look in the "Spirit" album for a glimpse of the weather!

The first of the new breed of huge container ships first came to Southampton on Sunday 9th December 2012. The CMA CGM Marco Polo is some 400m in length! Before she left the next day, Peter Taylor walked along the shore from Eling and snapped some views. On the 25th February 2013 she arrived back on a grey, misty day. Someone was feeding seagulls.

A cold grey Sunday at the pond - but at least the pond is ice free at the moment! And it was dark enough for the lights on Peter Burton's tug to shine out in the gloom. According to the lights she's under 50m, unable to alter course, and towing. Must of been too dark to see the tow!
