SRCMBC Steering Competitions

Richard_Graham_Trophy_2011 Nowadays the Scale Section annually holds two steering competitions. Courses (Click for example) are set by John Frost (second from right in photo) who guides the competitors around. Recently, for fairness to less mobile members, each competitor must sit in the helmsmans chair while competing.

solentcup2011b_sm Richard_Graham_Trophy_2011 Places are determined by the number of times a competitor touches buoys or other components of the course (with the lowest number of touches winning!). Where two competitors have the same number of "touches" the one achieving that score in the fastest time is favoured. Most competitions consist of two rounds with the competitors best round being counted. The competitions are light-hearted but we do have two fine trophies - the Richard Graham Trophy (the shield shown right) and the Solent Cup!
