Elcano
Juan Sebastián Elcano
(Allan Read)
[album] [HR]
Allan Reads latest fine model is of the four masted schooner Juan Sebastián de Elcano. Built in 1927 she is a training ship in the Spanish Navy. She is also one of the largest tall ships sailing today. The model was constructed from plans and looks impressive on the water. Allan is still adjusting her rig but when done, she should sail very well. Reg Radley took the photos during the maiden voyage, thanks Reg!

[album] [HR] [movie]
Last year we had a glimpse of Dave Reith's model of HMS Clyde, the Rivers Class Faulklands Patrol Vessel, during the build. Now Dave has provided some new photos of the completed model on acceptance trials at the pond on the 14th April, and very fine she looks too! Also some new photos of HMS Penzance taken by Dave on the 14th March. The model is highly manoeuvrable, view the movie!

Larger Scale Models!
Since the publication of the winter 2014 newsletter, members have been asking for more information on the topsail schooner which Scale Captain David McNair-Taylor was pictured onboard. Also there has been a request for more photos of Newsletter editor Peter Taylor's new boat (there has been, honest!). Here are some photos of both. Yes, that is David ascending to new heights and, no he was not arrested by the police!

"Seatern" is a 20 foot Baycruiser built by Swallow Boats in West Wales for SRCMBC member Peter Taylor. She is a ketch, although the sail proportions are those of a yawl, and has an outboard motor in a well ahead of the rudder. She has been fitted out for single handed sailing.

Setley Pond in Flood

(View album of all photos)

An exceptional series of storms during late December 2013 and January and February 2014 created flooding throughout southern England. Setley Pond was no exception and these photos show how the pond grew! (photo credits: jj = John Joughin, pkt = Peter Taylor, rr = Reg Radley)

Jonathan of LPB Productions was testing out a new drone at Setley Pond during one of the Sailing Sections One Metre race days. His experimental video showing Setley Pond and surroundings from the air, as well as some of the racing, can be viewed by clicking on the photo left, or directly on YouTube. You can see just how large an area is now under water at the end of January 2014. A view of the pond like you've never seen before!
