News Archive 2010December 2010: Winter Car Park Maintenance21st January 2011: The Car Park is open again!
Update 16th December 2010: The track had been re-opened but is now closed again due to damage to the road surface which appears (in two areas) to have been too soft to take cars. Only a narrow strip of water near the shore (1m or less in width) is not frozen.
September 2010: Lymington Charity Model Boat Exhibition
The club exhibition on the 4th September at the Masonic Hall, Lymington, was in support of the Lymington New Forest Hospital, the RNLI, and Help for Heroes (thankyou letter right). The show was a great success with the collection on the door raising over £560 for charity plus the sales from the RNLI and Help for Heroes stands (over £110 and £170 respectively). There are some photographs in our "Latest Photos" gallery.A message to members from the Scale Captain, on the day after the show: "A thank you from myself and the committee for your fantastic response and support for the Lymington Show, it was well worth all the sleepless nights to see such a great exhibition. We had some 104 boats on display and what a display it was, the public comments were all in praise. We have not yet counted the door takings, I will email the result in the week; I do know that both the RNLI and Help for Heroes took over £100 on each of their stands! My special thanks go to all the ladies who manned stalls and the entrance, and to the front gate guys who "pulled in the punters". Once again Lymington RNLI Day (on the 25th July) was a very successful event with an impressive display of models and a good attendance by the public.
June 2010: Navy Day
This year's "Navy Day" on the 27th June produced an impressive display of highly detailed warship models ashore and on the water, plus an RAF fly past! Photographs are in our "Latest Events" photo gallery.
Knightwood School Summer Fete On Saturday 12th June David McNair-Taylor set up a small display at Knightwood School Summer Fete in Chandlers Ford in support of their "Transport" theme and raised £20 for the RNLI. More...
in Memoriam: Tony BradfieldSadly we have to tell you that Tony Bradfield recently passed away. Tony joined the club in 2005 and loved the peace, tranquility and company the club and Setley pond offered. Unfortunately health problems meant that model making was becoming difficult to cope with even at that time. During the present year his health had been declining as a result of a stroke, and he recently had entered a nursing home. Our sympathy to his widow, Kit Bradfield, who derived a large measure of comfort from knowing that Tony enjoyed his visits to Setley. May 2010: Vintage Model Yacht Group visit Setley Pond
Members of the Vintage Model Yacht Group visited the Setley Pond on the 9th May 2010; there are photos of their models "free sailing" (no radio control), and occassionally flirting with danger at the southern end of the pond, in our "Latest Photos Gallery". March 2010: Annual Exhibition at Highcliffe

January 2010: Winter at the pond
January 6th and snow covers much of southern England. Here are some photos of what it was like at Setley pond. The snow was nowhere near as deep as other places nearby, even so, don't expect much model boat action! The last photo shows the area behind the car park... lots of solid water and very wintery!
