A freshening wind brought drama when Ray Hellicar's schooner "True Blue" took on rather too much water; fortunately she foundered near to shore and was salvaged. David McNair-Taylor's Thames barge "Lucy" was well reefed but Paul Nixon's "Kathleen" carried full sail. Pete Bryant's Military Hovercraft is now commanded by Harrison Evans, while John Edward's HMS Gambia is a fine addition to the web site.
Just a sample of the many boats on the water for the 2011 Navy Day. Sunny skies clouded over but the weather stayed fair until lunchtime (photos of the lakeside activity). And yes, those boats in the last two photo albums don't look very grey!
Most of the action centred around the harbour; I suspect a bit of practice for next week's steering competition was in progress? However "HMS Phoebe" briefly ventured far enough out to be photographed and Tom Royle was sailing his "Koh-i-Noor" earlier in the day than in the past so Tom and his yacht make a first appearance on the web site.

Another calm sunny day but with a developing sea-breeze. Ray Hellicars model of the stately "Bluebird of Chelsea" graced the pond; we have a movie of one of those pesky Jet Skis, and a few somewhat distant photos of the sea trials of Brian Rapley's U-Boat. Meanwhile, Peter Burton has offered to charter the Moonraker for the next club outing. Given good weather we should be able to get to the Channel Islands and back in the day.
