What's New 2009?

What was new in 2009?

(Click on the date to view the details)

December 2009 The Christmas lunch, the Royal Lymington Yacht Club's Boxing Day Regatta, Reg Radley's square rigger, and the pond threatening to freeze over.
November 2009 A month of strong winds and record rainfall limited action at the pond, but at least the pond was being refilled. This allowed our "Links to Other Model Boat Clubs" page to have it's annual update. But "F.C. Sturrock" was back on the water together with a Bristol Cutter.
October 2009 Scratch builder David McNair-Taylor tries out an "Almost Ready to Run" model of HMS Hood, Alan Bond takes us onto the pond with video views from his model, and Archie Howie's flying boat competes with the pond Heron.
September 2009 Photos of the Bisterne Scarecrow festival(!), views of the pond filmed from on board Alan Bond's Pusher Tug, a "buy photo prints of your model" service in aid of the RNLI, more members' discounts, and numerous new models (at least to this web site).
August 2009 Lymington Lifeboat Day, always a friendly event; more recommissioned models from Richard Coombs; the Solent Cup Steering Competition won by Andy Griggs; David McNair-Taylor's impressive ARTR model of HMS Hood; and an appeal for those members who have been to sea in the past to send me short summaries of their experiences.
July 2009 Some windy days at the pond! Star attractions included Richard Coombs' "HMS Belfast", and David Edwards clipper "Thermopylae" showing her ability to cope with strong winds. A service to provide prints from the photo galleries (in aid of the RNLI) was introduced. Our "Completely Different" photo gallery featured photos taken by Alan Bond at The National Oceanography Centre in Southampton.
June 2009 The Sailing Section pages now feature all their racing model yacht classes. The Richard Graham Steering Competition was held on the 7th June and won by Chris Chattaway. Almost all the movies were moved to the SRCMBC channel on YouTube and problems with the quality of some of the movies were fixed.
May 2009 For the Scale Section, the big Event during May was the Club's Second "Navy Day", which saw a large turnout as well as some more unusual models. Meanwhile, the Sailing Section hosted the Class R36R Metropolitan and Southern District Sailing Championships.
April 2009 During April the pond was getting crowded on club days with new models and old favourites and we had the first appearance (to my knowledge) of flying pigs. On the web site we began to see a response to the "Members comments on their models" feature, instigated last month, and there were various interesting new items for sale on our "Adverts" page.
March 2009 Finally Spring arrived and members came out of hibernation with new models and ideas. The 2009 Highcliffe exhibition was successful despite the recession. The web site went International with automatic translation into a host of languages... we already get views from around the world.
February 2009 A very quiet period at the pond due to the continuing cold weather. The Hints and Tips section expanded with an article by Alan Bond on using LED's, Peter Taylor's experiences in switching to 2.4 GHz, and Peter Oram's classic "Toolbox" series. The Members' Adverts page saw some good sales. Otherwise, role on summer!
January 2009 Again we suffered from poor weather; early in the month the pond was frozen over with thick ice (see the photo gallery). Updates to the web site included a summary of the visits to the site over 2008, more Members Adverts, and a new look for the Movie Gallery page which now stores most of the movies on YouTube (although you still access them from our own Movie page).
